Efrén González
Efren Gonzalez grew up in Ajijic, winning local and regional competitions at an early age. Along with many other muralists featured on this site he attended the art classes of Neill James. He originally studied architecture and the Plastic Arts but after working in a variety of jobs while always painting, he was offered a small grant to study Art at a small college in Maryland. He stayed a year and made the most of this opportunity by personally viewing many great works only previously seen in books.
He paints in all media; watercolor, oil, pastel and acrylic, and continues to hone his skills in classes with other painting masters. Oil and watercolor are his preferred medium. He is well known as a muralist having completed his first intricate mural in the 90’s for his hometown of Ajijic. He also teaches painting workshops in many locales throughout Mexico and has had his work permanently exhibited in Puerto Vallarta. He has traveled to the United States, Canada, Spain, Portugal, Greece and France painting, teaching and exhibiting his work.
He is very involved with the Ajijic community and provides much service to the local arts community.
